Slater was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up with a passion for the environment. She cut her teeth writing and making short films for The My Hero Project. (www.myhero.com) At the age of ten Slater moved with her filmmaker mom and dad to a 200 acre farm in Southern Ontario, Canada where she home-schooled for the first four years, giving her the opportunity to follow her creativity in the form of music, writing and filmmaking.
In 2004 she was introduced to the iEARN family at their annual conference in Slovakia where she took part in the Youth Summit and discovered like minded youth from around the world. Slater said, "After meeting kids from all over the world, I realized we all want the same thing, a clean environment, peace and for us to just be friendly to each other." After meeting Joanne Tawfilis, she became a Peace Paint Ambassador for the Art Miles Mural Project and has taken their message of hope and healing through art across the globe via her short films. In 2005, Slater met her Environmental Hero, Jean-Michel Cousteau at his family camp in Catalina and the short film from that experience made it into the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival in May of 2007. In March of 2007 she received an Earth Trustee Award at the United Nations in New York City for her environmental activism.

This September she started grade nine in the integrated arts program at PCVS high school in Peterborough, where she introduced her classmates to Art Miles, iEARN and My Hero….Her short film PEACE BEGINS, won the My Hero Film Festival's High School category for 2007 and will open the gala evening at the Peterborough Travelling World Community Film Festival.
